Karla Booker, MD, is a seasoned physician with experience spanning Obstetrics and Gynecology, Family Medicine, and Urgent Care. She brings her expertise and passion for healthcare to Reagan Medical Center. The practice has offices in Lawrenceville, Dacula, Suwanee, and Johns Creek, Georgia.
Dr. Karla Booker was born in Washington DC, while her father was completing medical school at Howard University. She dreamt of becoming a physician since the age of 11. She was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and is the 3rd generation of her family to attend Hampton University, where she was a Pre-Med major. Her daughter is the 4th generation to attend.
She is a Class of 1984 graduate of Meharry Medical College, in Nashville, Tennessee. She completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgia Baptist Medical Center, here in Atlanta – and completed her chief residency year at Saint Michael’s Medical Center, in Newark, New Jersey. She practiced ObGyn for 13 years, serving as Department Chair at Southside Medical Center, the largest community health center in the Southeast.
Then, in order to expand her scope of practice, she completed a second residency in Family Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine. She was appointed Assistant Professor and Director of the Maternal-Child Health Division there. She went on to Gwinnett Medical Center, where she helped to found the Family Medicine residency program.
Dr. Booker’s passion centers in helping the next generation to navigate their way to a career in Medicine. Her commitment to the future of medicine is realized in her appointment as an adjunct Professor at both Morehouse School of Medicine and at the Georgia campus of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her appointment to Morehouse’s Admissions Committee in 2024 is one of her proudest moments. She founded Hampton University’s Pre-Medical/Alumni Advisory panel, bringing together learners and alumni to engage in mentorship and networking. During her tenure as faculty at Morehouse School of Medicine, Dr. Booker was lauded and awarded as an Honorary Class Member and Graduation Marshal by multiple classes. This is truly one of her greatest honors. On Class Day annually, she provides scholarships to Morehouse’s graduates, acknowledging the level of excellence achieved.
She believes that community service through volunteerism is the action behind the heart of the medical professional. She has been volunteering at the Truth’s Clinic in Lawrenceville, GA since 2014 and began the Women’s Health program there, providing contraception and menopause care to Gwinnett County’s most needy. In 2025, she was named to the Board of the Georgia Healthy Family Alliance, which provides statewide funding for physician innovators in the area of serving the underserved.
8 years ago, due to family health concerns, Dr. Booker re-vamped her career – and herself.
She is currently practicing Urgent Care at the Wellstar Health System. But now her favorite titles are GRANDMOMMY, WORLD TRAVELER, AND AVID CROCHETER. She has 3 beloved grown children and two delightful grandsons.
She is a #1 bestselling Amazon author of “71 Days: A Caregiver’s Guide” – sharing her journey with her late husband’s terminal cancer. She is now dedicated to healing through grief and overall wellness.
Her foundational belief is that women, as the heart of the family, are also the heart of our society. Until women have a seat at the table and until our perspectives and input are valued, we will never fulfill our destiny as a people.
